District Overview:

The Yarnell Fire District serves the community of Yarnell and surrounding areas in Yavapai County, Arizona. Its primary responsibilities include providing essential fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), wildland firefighting, rescue operations, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, and honor guard services. Established as a dedicated fire district to safeguard this rural, mountainous region renowned for its historical mining heritage and susceptibility to wildland fires the district operates as a state cooperator with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. The Yarnell Fire District has consistently prioritized community safety, training, and preparedness within this wildfire prone high desert environment. Presently, it remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding residents, visitors, and the natural surroundings of Yarnell through professional response and ongoing education initiatives.

Area Infromation:

Yarnell in Yavapai County, Arizona, is nestled within the Weaver Mountains, a part of the Bradshaw Range. At an elevation of approximately 4,780 feet (1,457 meters). Summers are milder, with average highs ranging from 77 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, while winters are mild, with lows in the 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The area receives approximately 16 inches of annual precipitation, including occasional light snowfall. Yarnell Hill, located along State Route 89, offers a winding and scenic drive that descends over 1,300 feet in just four miles. Yarnell’s history dates back to the mid 1800s Arizona gold rush. The town was named after prospector Harrison Yarnell, who staked claims in 1873. Yarnell experienced growth as a mining hub, alongside ranching, but gradually transitioned to support travelers on the historic route (formerly U.S. Route 89, now State Route 89) connecting Phoenix to Prescott and northern Arizona. Currently, Yarnell functions as a tranquil rural community with a population of approximately 570 to 586 (based on the 2020 Census and recent estimates). Yarnell provides a serene escape, offering four distinct seasons, breathtaking natural vistas, and a resilient sense of community. Located approximately 80 miles northwest of Phoenix and 35 miles south of Prescott, Yarnell serves as an accessible high country retreat.
